Newbie DJ

Hi
I've been offered the chance to set myself up as a mobile DJ for someones party - they buy the equipment and I do the DJing.
But... whats the easiest and cheapest way to do this? I want to work with MP3s rather than vinyl, what software is good and easy to understand for a complete beginner?
Thanks

    This is doomed to failure if you don't even know what software to use or how to do it. There's a whole load more to it than just shoving on random tracks. A DJ can either make or ruin a party. For example at my wedding reception the DJ was rubbish and hardly anyone bothered dancing. At my mates, the guy was an ex Havens holiday park DJ and was off his trolly getting everyone up to do all kinds of dances and worth every penny and then some. 3 months later and I've still got the chuffin "big fish, little fish, cardboard box" tune going through my head along with the mental dance that went with it

    Virtual DJ is excellent and very easy to learn, but ;

    - even the cr4ppiest equipment is going to cost 100 times more than an experienced Wedding DJ for the night.
    - I don't know what they were smoking when they offered to buy you the gear, but they may be lucid tomorrow.

  • Mixxx I think is another free DJ program (you'll probably find it on google).

    Its good gear for mp3's / the cheapest crappy lappie will do it. Keep it simple [ish ] in the first instance you learn enough cue [ing] to get you started in just a couple of hours. Additionally benefit is the pi$$heads can't pick up your vinyl with their chicken~grease~covered fingers.

    You are right to practice, best of luck my friend !
