Hi all
I'm not sure where else to turn I need some advise. I received a parking ticket and stupidly ignored it and now it's been passed to debt collectors. They say we agreed a payment plan and I defaulted on. I have not agreed anything with them as I couldn't afford what they were suggesting. But same a payment towards it about 7 weeks ago after a bayliff came to my house while I was out and put a letter through the door saying they would take my car if I didn't pay!
Now after trying to arrange a payment plan I can stock to they have phoned me back to say they want full payment immediatly or a bayliff will be round to take my car away!
I offered to make payments but cannot afford the lump sum! It's around £500 :-( I have been so stupid!
Can they take my car away even though it's worth more than £500?
I'm too scared to go home.
Please help! :-(

I am pretty sure they aren't allowed to threaten to take your items, they can say they will take goods to the value of ..... but not we will take your car. It sounds like a private company but if you are frighten it might be worth going to CAB for advice or calling the police if they turn up and harass you.I am DEBT - FREE!?!?0

Hi browntoa
it's one from the council.
The collectors are called: Bristow & sutor.
They seem rather adamant they won't accept any part payment and will be around shortly to remove goods :-(0 -
Yep, these guys are nasty and the parking ticket is a problem.
Make sure your car is parked WELL away from you home and I mean WELL away. As far as I know, they can take it.
Phone them, make an offer. If they refuse, phone the council and tell them you are being harrassed.

I doubt they are in fact allowed to take your car (although in these circumstances the police are often unwilling to act as soon as you mention repossession of property and bailiff). If you want to set your mind at rest, park the car somewhere they won't find it when trawling up and down all the back streets in your area to try find your car. Consider taking a long walk or a bus back home if a lift isn't possible.Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0

Try PM'ing RobertoMoir who may be able to help as he is an expert with bailiffs
Good luck and I hope it can be all sorted out

I'm not exactly too sure if this is similar to how it works when you owe council tax, but as said - park the car well away!
Also, if the car is ESSENTIAL for business purposes, they cannot take it.
Thats how I understand bailiffs recovering council tax - certificated bailiffs. Someone else may be able to confirmGeek by Nature.. Geek by Profession!

Ooh it's terrible!
I think I will phone the council first thing. It's quite rural where I live and hard to hide a car.
Do u think the council can make them accept my offers?0 -
This thread from yesterday may be interesting to you in parts. Check post 5 for advice.

Have you taken a look a the appeals guide to council parking tickets - if it was unfair you might have a case, though it sounds like you're supposed to act sooner rather than later..
Def worth having a read all the way through though:
