Static from my laptop..

Ive recently noticed that im getting sharp 'pinprick' feelings on the inside of my right wrist when on my laptop. Ive realised its probably static.

Ive not had new carpets, or doing anything different to usual.

The only change is that I have recently bought a new power supply, and im wondering if this could be the problem (made sure it was the correct vaultage/compatable with my laptop), is this a common problem, and what can I do?

While typing (and getting shocks) im thinking the first thing to do is borrow a different wire, and if thats ok, its probably the wire, so Ive perhaps solved my own question:o.

However if anyone has any suggestions, if its happened to them, any advice is most welcome

    Hairy wrists indeed?! Im a lady!!!:p

    RSI..know where you are coming from, but no, not that either.

    My son also noticed it too yesterday, so im guessing its not me!

    Seems quite a coincidence for it to start at the same time we use a new wire, although ive just tried it unplugged while the battery is full and it still happened.

    Just assuming it is static...I dont want to electricute myself!!

    So possibly an earth fault somewhere then...

    What are you actually touching with your (non-hairy) wrist when you get the shock? Do you get this shock on any other place on the laptop (move your wrist around!).

    The 'bad earth' theory sounds plausible until you realise that the mains adapter thingie is only putting out about 18V DC in the small plug you put in near the back of the laptop (and nowhere near the touch-pad)... You're not going to get a noticeable shock from 18V DC! And the mains earth connection only goes up as far as the transformer/rectifier 'brick'.

    Static from female garmenture used to be a problem tens of years ago with the wonders of Bri-Nylon, but since you say that your son also gets the problem, we must presumably discount this...

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    I can confirm that I am a REAL lady thank you, not related to Emily Howard in any way!!!

    Neither do I (or my son) wear any bri-nylon undergarments:p, and I never rub my knees together while typing either! (or at any other time really!)

    Whats happening is when im typing away on the lap top, if my wrist comes into contact with the edge of the computer, I feel sharp pin pricks, which feel like small electric shocks, theres no sparks or cracks. It doesnt happen constantly, but enough to make it feel uncomfortable, and of some consern after a few minutes typing.

    If you are sure no fine hairs are getting trapped in the case, try to recreate with the machine unconnected to the mains, and then switched off without the battery in.
