Income Thresholds - Tax re-calim - net or gross?

Just a quick one if anybody knows.

I have seen the tax thresholds for income is £6,035 for 08/09 and £6,475 for 09/10.

Is this based on net or gross pay?

Also I was out of the country for a few months - how will this affect the threshold? Will it be done on a pro-rata basis?

I'll give the approx details in case it helps:

08/09
Gross earnings £6,000
Net earnings £5,000
Tax £1,000

But I was only in the country for 9 months.

How could it be based on net pay?

You use the tax code to deduct tax which is one of the deductions that turns your gross pay into net pay!

Whether you were in the country for 9 months or 9 minutes makes no difference.
