    I think they can have their cake and eat it with large losses being considered as deprivation of capital.

    Wouldn't they have to look at how much of his own money he used in order to win in the first place, i.e. he may have used £600 to win the £1000 meaning the profit was only £400. Sorry if I'm being thick but I've never really gambled on anything apart from the odd lottery ticket.

    I'm not sure what I feel about this, my brother bets on the horses at least a couple of times a week and even though he's has some decent(ish) wins if we looked at his profits I'm sure it'd be the Bookmaker who comes out on top. Well you never see a poor bookie do you?
