Launderette lost my washing - wont speak to me

My daughters dryer broke about 3 months ago & she has not replaced it yet so goes weekly to the local launderette with her wet washing and they dry it for her to collect the following day. They came back from a 2 week holiday at the beginning of September, she did a massive wash almost 3 bin bags of all hers, hubbys & toddler holiday clothes (mostly brand new bought for the holiday) plus all her towels bedding & other clothes. When she went the next day to collect it they couldnt find it and said they must have given it to someone else, they have no record of who they have given it to, they said they would ring her if the lady brought it back. One week on and no one has brought the washing on my daughter rang to ask what they were going to do about it. The lady in the shop asked her to come in and see the manager to fill in a claim sheet. She went in as requested only to be told the manager will not see her, he has refused to take any calls from her and wont allow the staff to give her a contact number. He is the owner of the shop. She has phoned the police who have said its not a matter they get involved with and she must take it up with the small claims courts. I just wondered if anyone could advise anything else, she thinks there was probably a minimum of £500 -£600 clothes.

I would stand outside with a sandwich board ..proclaiming what they had done ..
when the owner phones up the police ..they will be involved then ..and perhaps you'll get it resolved without farting about with courts etc .

A LETTER FROM TRADING STANDARDS FIRST THOUGH ..

    all the best.markj

Go through the Consumer Direct website:

    http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/

Phone them and they will phone you back from local Trading Standards. You can actually do an online line Small Claims Court application for about £50, it's not that hard but give Trading Standards a chance first. I would go to the local paper about it too.
  • If all else fails - local paper will no doubt run the story accompanied by the usual photo of mummy and child looking miserable outside.
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
