The safety card played yet again!

Sorry but we are talking here about a pilot light not main burners.

The manuals for both my boilers give very clear instructions in layman's terms about the length of the flame and a diagram of which screw to turn clockwise or anti-clockwise to get it the correct length.
  • Hi Lemontart you sure are a gloom and doom merchant aren't you.

I turned down my pilot light and my house hasn't blown up, nor have I been poisoned by CO and my CO detector hasn't made a sound.

I just have to cover up the vents in the wall now as when the heating is on there is an almighty draught coming from them.

Several threads on this and your usage is a bit more than average - but not massively more.

Of course much of the time the heat is not wasted as it warms the fabric of the house. Do you not use your boiler for Hot Water in the summer?

I agree and if clothes are racked in the same room, this small amount of energy, dries them night or day, winter and summer, magic

not doom and gloom just spend my days dealing with such problems and would prefer not to have to hear from op in case of emergency and want folk to be safe

  • Wouldn't getting a gas safe person out somewhat defeat the point of turning down the pilot light to save money?
Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.

but at least you know that is not anything else, we do not know if the change in its consumption is new or if it has always been that way or is it a supply issue? What price peace of mind.
