Hi I am looking for a yummy tried and tested beef curry could you please share your recipe for me
:)
Not so much of a recipe but a throw it all in the slowcooker thingy
into my slow cooker I put in the following order:
2-3 onions chopped
2 cloves of garlic finely chopped
1-2 green peppers chopped
small punnet of baby mushrooms (left whole) or closed cup mushrooms sliced
braising/stewing steak cubed (I dont bother to brown it off first) - quantity varies depending on whats in the freezer but never more than 500g
2-3 heaped tablespoons of Madras curry paste (depending on mood)
tin or two of chopped tomatoes
This usually cooks on low all day then about an hour before serving I stir in a sachet (or 2) of creamed coconut (leave slow cooker on low), check the taste and season as necessary.
I do like to make 'proper' curries (without using readymade pastes) but this was an experiment a couple of years ago that worked out well for us.
There is only two of us so this makes plenty to go in the freezer for a later date0 -

* I've somehow managed to go my whole life without making chili! Can people give me some tips? I'd like to make it with soya mince (from dried), so do I not need to cook it as long? I will add veg (carrots and courgettes, I don't like sweet peppers) and tins of beans, and spice, should I be ok just following a normal meat recipie?
Hi Nottoobadyet - I have a fabulous veggie chilli recipe: instead of soya mince it uses bulgar wheat (first soaked in tomato juice). If it is of any interest, I can post the recipe."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -
Tuesday - L: sandwich.
mince pie with mash, carrot & peas.
The pie was in a 2 for £1 offer with a chicken & mushroom one I ended up succumbing to and buying on Sat for a snack. It was the cheapest I could find something in the shop containing meat, that I would be willing to eat. I have discovered/re-discovered that I can do vegetarian meals, or a vegetarian day, and enjoy it, but if I go much longer I start craving meat, even though I have been having enough of other sources of protein. It's so weird.0 -

Evening all,
So need to do this meal planning again. Am also doing the freezer/ cupboard challenge so some odd combos here too from trying to use this lot up so I can defrost the freezer - have striked out those used up by this meal plan, all being ok:
vegetable samosas, 12 rolls, peas
[STRIKE]parsnips[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]brussels sprouts[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]green beans[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]syrup pudding[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]corn on the cob[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]curly fries[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]few odd french fries[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]croquettes[/STRIKE]
Right here goes, in no particular day order:
1. Roast chicken, pots, green beans, brussel sprouts, roast parsnips
2. Any leftovers, from the roast, chopped up fried with a few chilli flakes.
3. Jacket pots with coleslaw or cheese
4. Chicken Chow Mein - with peppers, beansprouts, noodles 6ttp://www.bbc.co.uk/chinesefoodmadeeasy/recipes/episode_1.shtml?chowmein
5. Hot dogs with fried onions, corn on the cob
6. Mushroom omelette or fried egg and chips (french/curly fries or croquettes) and beans - this is light meal so will have syrup pudding & custard
7. Chicken Tikka Masala & rice (from Asda, total cheat! totally yum).
8. Hot & sour soup with coriander and mushrooms, and prawn crackers
So need to buy:
Free range chicken (whole), Maris Piper pots, Onions, Coleslaw, cheese (from Aldi yum)
Free range chicken, Groundnut oil, Peppers, spring onions, noodles, beansprouts, Mushrooms, tin hotdogs, chicken tikka masala ready meal
Hot dog rolls from the bakers (yum), mushrooms/coriander/chillis/prawn crackers from chinese shopDeclutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

Vegetarian Chili
2 tins of kidney beans - or use dry ones, soaked and cooked
1 cup bulgar wheat (250 ml)
250 ml tomato juice
olive oil
2 onions
plenty garlic cloves (6 or 8)
1 carrot and 1 celery stalk
a green or red pepper
1 tin of chopped tomatoes
3 tbsp tomato puree
cumin, chili powder, dried basil
Heat the tomato juice in a small pan until it just boils, take off the heat, add the bulgar wheat and leave it to stand for 15 mins or so.
Soften the chopped onions in a little olive oil, add 3 or 4 chopped garlic cloves, chopped carrot and celery. Add 2 tsp cumin, 2 tsp dried basil, 2 tsp chili powder (or to taste) and salt & pepper. Add the chopped green or red pepper and cook until it is all soft.
Combine the beans (with liquid), bulgar wheat in tomato juice, onion/vegetable mixture, chopped tomatoes and tomato puree. Simmer for 15 minutes, then add the remaining 3 or 4 garlic cloves (chopped). Simmer again for 15 minutes or so. Adjust seasoning.
Serve with some parsley on top and the usual trimmings like grated cheese, sour cream or creme fraiche, sliced avocado (all optional, of course).
note: not sure I have the right measure for the kidney beans - the original recipe uses 2.5 cups dry beans. Maybe you need a little more than 2 tins cooked kidney beans, I always start from dry."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -
