It can't really be Thursday again already, can it?

I'm doing storecupboard challenge at the moment so I've got some slightly odd concoctions this week:

Friday - tinned mackerel, sweetcorn and onion pizza with salad
Saturday - pork chop in honey-chilli marinade (a freebie I got weeks ago and haven't got round to using), with sweetcorn fritters and roast butternut squash
Sunday - ham and lentil soup with HM bread (possibly cheese and onion as I've got a load of cheese at the moment)

Monday - king prawn and veg stirfry with egg fried rice and mini spring rolls
Tuesday - spicy veg and peanut butter stew with naan bread
Wednesday - pasta with spicy sausage and tomato sauce
Thursday - salmon en croute with glazed carrots and HM chips

I might try and make a cake / pudding at some point - probably blackberry or damson-based to use up some of the fruit in the freezer. I'll have to go and hunt out some recipes...
Back after a very long break!
  • Hi everyone,

Thanks for starting the thread Pen Pin :) We haven't really been that good this week, well would have been OK bar the blip tuesday when we had a curry... But then OH was out weds and tonight and I didn't get to have my yummy burgers last night :( BOO!

So-the hope for the next week is:

    Mon-Beef stew and mash, cabbage
Tu-Retro turkey curry and rice (or maybe chip shop chips! depends on the day)
We-Mushroom pearl barley risotto (this is new, and an experiment. Now if only I could remember where the recipe was from!)
Th-tomato and mozarella pasta bake, salad.
    Fr-Smoked haddock chowder
Sa-BBQ burgers and chips or corn on the cob
Su-Roast shoulder of lamb, roast spuds and carrots cauli cheese.

Am sure will change as usual. but hopefully not too much!

There's a recipe like this in this month's delicious magazine - is that the one your were thinking of? Either way, I'd be very interested to know what pearl barley is like in a risotto - I've only ever had it in stews and would love to know there's another good use for the stuff. :)

I have saved a FORTUNE by following your examples and mealplanning! Shopping takes half the time and I actually come home with stuff to make 6/7 main meals, lunches, breakfast and snacks instead of a full trolley of 'nothing to make a meal!'

    1 adult, 2 little ones

OK, this weeks plan (Fri - Fri) goes like this but is always subject to change :D

Friday - Gammon, new pots, peas and hm parsley sauce
    Sat - Out with friends
Sun - Smoked mackerel with new pots and lots of veggies
    Mon - HM Burgers
Tues - Spag bol with LO mince bulked out with oats and lentils :D
Wed - Carbonara (with LO gammon)
Thurs - fish fingers, chips, beans and peas

    Breakfast will be toast/cereal/omelette
Lunches will be rice cakes with cheese/sandwiches with LO gammon/hm smoked mackerel pate/hm soup from freezer
Snacks will be fruit and whatever I bake this week - got 2 nearly black bananas so guess what I am making :D
Puds will be (for kids not me) icecream/fruit/angel delight/yoghurt

My shopping list for the whole of this week will be
    Gammon
    new pots
    baked beans
    carrots
    onions
    mackerel
    value cream cheese
    fruit
    brocolli
    oxo
    tom puree
    parsley
    milk
    cheese

Everything else is here in freezer or cupboards so I can buy extras for the storecupboard for when we get snowed in  (oh and some yummy hot choc as i promised the little ones that they can have hot choc before school on chilly days :D)

  • Still trying to use up as much store cupboard and freezer items to keep the grocery shop low.

    Mon: Tuna pasta bake
Tues: Fish pie w/ peas and broccoli
    Weds: Freezer surprise
    Thurs: Quorn Chili & rice
    Fri: HM Burgers & chips
