Xbox 360 or PS3

Thanks all, for the information, I think I like the sound of the PS3 better, will get looking around for a good deal now.

If anyone knows of one I would really appreciate it if you let me know.

It really comes down to what games does he want to play?

The best games on the PS3 and Xbox tend to be things like Modern Warfare 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2, played online, and they're not suitable for a six year old.

Would a Wii potentially be better for the next couple of years?

By all means get a PS3 if you secretly want it for yourself to watch Blue Ray discs on and so on

Hes already got a Wii and has got bored of it! he does like action games but obviously nothing too violent. No, its definately not for me I wouldnt even know how to switch it on!! never mind play it!

If he's bored of the Wii then he'll get bored of a 360/PS3.

Dont let the Red Ring of Death scare you into picking a PS3 either as PS3 gets the Yellow Light of Death.

It depends how you store them. Obviously keep them off the carpet and dont put them in cupboards in tv stands and stuff when they're turned on.
