Spell check not working - openoffice.org

I have open office as a cheap version of word for windows. It has always worked fine until a recent 'update'. Its now openoffice.org 3.2, I think it was openoffice 3 before (and I dont remember the .org bit after the name either)

Anyway, I now notice that the spell check isnt working. The autospell check shows its active on the toolbar but doesnt actually underline anything in red. The manual spell check also says that 'spell check is complete' but hasnt found any words.

Whats happened?

  • Hi,

just tried it, and at first it didn't work, but after typing some deliberate mistakes and clicking on abc and auto spell check it works now, maybe just needs activated.

I hope you mean a free version.

The words that are misspelled haven't ended up in your dictionary by any chance?

    yes its probably free

ive had office since we got this laptop, back in 2008, the only thing that has changed is the update recently.

no ive tried typing rubbish and it doesnt show up

no the 'mispelled' words are various things, plus names and stuff which are not showing up like normal

thanks, it hasnt worked though. the problem seems to be that in languages the default for english hasnt got a blue tick next to it. it advise to close it back down and then check again but this doesnt change it

Another option may be to uninstall and then install a fresh version
