Working Tax credit query

Hello, I have a question regarding tax credits/working tax credits.

My son goes to a state school which has a boarding option - he boards and is 11 years of age and started three weeks ago.

His mum and I are no longer together so she is a single mum. She works full time. I have been told that as the school he attends (and boards at) is a state school she can claim a large percentage of the fees as childcare costs. Is this correct i.e. would this be classed as child care?

The fees are approx £8,000.00 annually so if the above is correct how much can she claim?

Thank-you

Child care costs are for childminders, nurserys and afterschool clubs.
You have chosen to send your child to boarding school therefore you will not get any help with the costs.
If you could Im sure everyone would be sending their children to boarding schools!!
