Hi all. I'm a total non-techie. If I plug it in or turn on the on switch that's about it! Anyway, my laptop (HP Compaq 6910p) has just gone a bit funny, went blue and had a dump(!) apparently. This message appeared
C:\Windows\Minidump\092210-18907-01.dmp
Now, I know someone here knows what this means. Could anyone tell me (in very simple terms!) Is it fatal (or potentially)? Do I have to do anything?
Laptop still works OK (for the moment!?)

It means there is a file on your computer called 092210-18907-01.dmp located in C:\Windows\Minidump\ that contains details on what went wrong.... can;t tell anything more than that so far i'm afraid
....also if it doesn't come back you've probably nothing to worry about, however if it does you ought to set yoour PC not to automatically try to restart so you can read the actual error message (dumped) on the blue screen0 -
I suspect that you may not have done any housecleaning on your computer.
Either find a friend to help you or ring around now and ask the local pc fixers that advertise for a quote to clean up your computer.
Ensure that you mention that you have had a blue screen error that needs investigating.
You will save money in the long run as it is more expensive to fix once it has given up completely.0 -

garbage, you don't need to call someone out or start spending money for a one off non-recurring blue screen
If it comes back we can find out what the error actually is and someone on here will advise if its even remotely serious.
In the meantime just make sure your backups are in good order.
here are instructions to prevent your PC autorebooting at the next blue screen (if you ever see it again)

Hard to tell, could be that Windows had failed to shutdown properly or there was a glitch in the hardware.
If not already doing so, do backups in case it lets go in a big way.0 -
The most useful information is the initial couple of lines which appear at the top of the Blue Screen, and the Most Useful part of this is the Stop Code.
It may be that your operating system is set to restart when it gets a Blue Screen, so if you can open the minidump file with something like Notepad, then the information which would help should be somewhere near the very top.0 -

Thanks for the link, JasX, however I'm on Windows 7 and the instructions are for XP - I did say I was a complete non-techie, didn't I!? I'm sorry, I just can't figure out how to do it on W7! Any other links?
I don't even know how to add separate quotes on this board - but in response to John Gray, I did try and open the minidump file with notepad, but it wouldn't open.
So far it's behaving - no blue screen. I may have to ask my 17 year old nephew! (Who'll no doubt roll his eyes, sigh loudly, then tippy tap away for around 5 mins and then pronounce it "sorted"!) Here's hoping....0 -
