I am in the same position as you with nasty BT and so far have found out:
"As regards the increase in line rental cost. You are entitled to be released from a contractual obligation relating to the service of which the price is being changed, if the change will mean you are materially disadvantaged. This however only relates to the service for which the price is being changed, namely the PSTN telephone line rental."
Greedy BT thought it was fair to charge up to £16.53 for each outstanding month to get out of 12 month contracts that were unfairly and "automatically" renewed without our consent.
Ofcom has managed to get the charges reduced by up to 85% so, in your case you will be charged £2 for each month of the "outstanding 12 month contract" you probably never consented to either.

Sorry, I don't know anything about AOL (or America Off Line, as I know it's called in the States)!
I hope this information is useful to you.0 -

you will be put on the weekend calls plan which doesnt have a tie in period (apart from the notice period ) but obviously any evening calls you make would be charged for...then either stay on the plan you are on ( and use override providers for your calls) or find another company to provide your calls, or calls and line rental.
If the date has passed and you didnt want to renew, why did you leave it so long.0
