How to stop myself using the internet?

Hi all

Wondering if you can help me?

I have embarked on a course and I need to concentrate on it!

I know i will get waylaid flicking around on the internet looking for nothing-in-particular and suddenly half the days gone.

Is there a way I could restrict the amount of time online? Ie could I set some sort of timer where I can only access it for say 8-9, then 12-2 then 6 onwards?

We use googlechrome if that matters at all :)

Would love your help! thanks!

Yes - there are several - will power, self control, motivation......... need any more?
Not a techy question really but biological - inside your head.

The good news is that you realise what is happening. Maybe focus on some subject and do not stray.

edit - to get a bit technical there is always a switch....

    Wow, how very helpful !

I will need to use the computer most of the time. I can access books and journals and other materials online.

This is why I wanted to time it.

Can anyone tell me if it is possible or not.

I dont really need sarcasm, just instructions as to how to do it.

I think the problem you have is that you are trying to find a technical solution to a non-technical problem.

Actually, it is worse than that, you actually want access to the internet for your researches and not for trivia, as far as I can see, so you need a clock device which cuts off trivia.

Just get one of those 60 min wind up egg timers.

I was sure that there was a way of timing it ( like a child lock?)that I had heard of before.

I am happy to pay for something if needed.

If I can set restrictions in my router, does anyone know how i do this i have an o2 wireless router and using Gchrome.

    thanks

Seconded. The OP is over-complicating the issue.

Go online, and set yourself a time on a manual alarm. When the alarm goes off, quickly review to yourself "What have I done since I set the timer?"

The answer isn't within the router, but within your own head.
  • Your router probably has a feature to cut internet access at specific times. It doesn't matter what browser. If you have WIndows 7, then you can set Parental control based on your needs.

BUT, if you do this, then you can always undo it.

It will still boil down to your self restraint in the end.
