cash on collection

Have sold an item and the winning bidder is now saying they want to come and collect it from my house.

I didn't mention this in the listing, just Paypal.

Wouldn't doing cash on collection be risky as there is no way of proving they have received the item from me.

So possibly they could put in a Not Received Claim and they would have my item and Paypal could deduct the money from my account even though they paid me in cash isn't it?

Bit wary of this?

Anyone any thoughts?

  • id snap their hand off at cash on collection ;)
paypal cant take any money off you if they didnt pay by paypal in the 1st place,

plus you wont have paypal fees to be deducted ;)

go on, let him collect it, it will save you wrapping it up, and he will think he has more of a bargain so will keep his eye out on your auctions in the future :D
  • I agree!

I sold something on Monday and the buyer came and collected it tonight and paid by cash. It was great cos it meant no hefty chunk of my "winnings" got eaten up by PayPal fee's.

I'd go for it, let them pick it up. PayPal can't take what you didn't receive xxx

...if this happened then there would also be no way of them proving that they had paid you for it.

As above posters have said, cash is good. However, if you are not comfortable about it for other reasons (having strangers coming to your house, having to wait in for them, etc) then just say no.

cash on collection means no INR case as paypal are not involved.

take the Cash.. id rather collect and pay cash so i look for stuff local to me if its a big purchase, so at least i can inspect the item.

  • Cash is king. Prepare a bill of sale stating that the buyer has inspected the item and has accepted it as is.

Strangers come by my house to deliver stuff all the time. I sat on a bus the other day with lots of strangers.

Talk to them on the phone -- if they sound normal, they probably are.
