    I know someone who did something similar. They called it an 'office' though and it saved a whole lot of hassle with the planning and building regs people. They did use it as an office but it was occasionally used as an extra bedroom when family came to stay etc.

    PP for outbuildings is one thing, PP for a habital room is a very diferent animal.
    the new simplified PP rules do not apply to habital space/s.

    a caravan type would be a far simpler solution. and far cheaper.
    dont tell the neighbours though. kids sleeping the odd night is ok. a permanent mobile home comes under the same rules as above.
    Get some gorm.
  • you can build outhouses for any reason (within certain sizes and distances from the house) without planning permission. people can sleep in them but they must not be separate dwellings - you need to argue with the Council over what constitutes a separate dwelling.

    You will need building regs for any work, its not going to be used as a shed at the end of the day.
