Parking ticket while sat in car...

Hi,
I received a parking ticket from a third party company UKCPS while actually sat in the car today.
I pulled up outside an apartment building in Leeds and phoned a colleague to come down and meet me as I knew the car was on double yellow lines to collect some equipment I had for him. He briefly sat in the car while I was explaining something when this guy walked up to the passenger window and asked if we worked for a certain company. We said no and said why we where there (just dropping off some equipment) when he said I've got to give you a parking ticking and stuck one on the window and walked away.
The person, didn't say we shouldn't be parked there, can you move on or anything to that nature. I hadn’t left the car unattended either. To no surprise my colleague and I were both shocked and angry at the same time at what had happened
I now have a fine for £60 to be paid within 14 days. Can they do this and if I let this go and no doubt receive a few threatening letters would this stand up in court if they wanted to take it the full distance especially as I have a colleague as a witness.
Any advice would be greatly received.
Many thanks,
Terry.

UKCPS are well known on here. You don't owe them a penny, so ignore all the correspondence from them and do not contact them. By the way, it's not a "fine", it's an unenforceable invoice,What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

Thirded (is that word ?
) anyway they should be ignored utterly and not paid at all, enjoy your money for other things
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0
