"Speaking behind closed doors at a meeting at X06, Vice President of Interactive Services Peter Moore calmly states that the price of the Xbox 360 will not be seeing a reduction this fall.
Although rumours have been circulating that a price drop would be likely this fall to coincide with the launches of Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s Playstation 3, Peter Moore’s statement doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. With the Playstation 3 estimated to make its debut in Europe next year as the most expensive console weighing in at a hefty €499 for the basic model and €599 for the premium model, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will no longer be the most expensive console available.
With Nintendo’s Wii coming to the European market this December at a higher than expected price of €249, Microsoft must feel pretty comfortable with the pricing structure they put in place almost a year ago. Although history has taught us that consoles tend to drop in price within the first year of release, that certainly doesn’t seem to be the case for the Xbox 360. "0
