Hi everyone,
I need some advice...I really need to get back into studying/work Ive decided I want to do a pharmacy course.
Well Ive been ringing round loadsa pharmacies asking if they will take me on voluntarily as a trainee dispenser but they all said no. One advised me to take up a course at college and get a placement.
Which is great as my local college has places on the course which started last week. I spoke to one of the tutors and she has asked me to come in tomorrow. Which is also Grreat Only problem is I have 2 children under the age of two,,.. And I dont know how Im going to afford childcare not on any benefits and my Other Half is on a low income..Also if I take them into college with me tomorrow will it look bad?
Can some one please shed some light.??
Thanks

Maybe try asking the college if they will help towards childcare? I think it will depend on lots of different factors- level of the course, partners income and any benefits you receive etc. Its definatley worth askingthem, otherwise you will never know :-)
I went to college last year to do an Access course and had my childcare paid by the college's discretionary fund. I was a single parent though on income support with 2 children aged 2 and 3 at the time. This year I'm going to university and getting 85% of my childcare paid from a childcare grant.
Re: taking the kids with you- I don't think they should discriminate if you have to bring them with you, but if you can get a babysitter it may allow you to concentrate and give your best at the interview.

Thanks for your replies. x x x
You aren't allowed to dispense unless you are at least currently on a dispensing course. Many pharmacies don't take people because it's too much hassle doing all the confidentiality/health & safety etc. stuff and there's not much people can do. Plus if the dispensary is small you can get in the way.
Oh I wasnt aware of that maybe thats why alot of them rejected me.
Will you have to pay for this? Im not entirely sure, I did speak to a careers advisor last night and they said I should get help via a level 3 entitlement. Have you tried getting a job with Boots or Lloyds? They'll pay for it. Ive called all the local boots and lloyds pharmacies and only one pharmacy manager from lloyds was willing to take my cv and speak to her area mangaer. You'll probably have to come in as a healthcare assistant, there's a course for that which they'll put you on. That way you'll also get a chance to see if it's actually what you want to do. What attracts you to it? Its just always something Ive wanted to do and it a career in which I can progress further.0 -

I forgot to ask if you'd tried your local hospitals. I doubt there's much recruitment going on but no harm trying. Most think it more interesting than community and I think you get paid more, plus the benefit of nice hours.0

Hi Thanks for you rreply,
Tried hospitals nothing available.:(
I went to the college this morning and the tutor offered me a place on the course also my course fees will get paid for via learner support fund. Ive also found a placement in a local pharmacy. Only problem is they havent got no funding left for childcare so now im completely stuck for childcare 3 days a week:mad::mad: Worst thing is I havent got no family round here to help out and the only friend I have got has two young children of her own so I feel bad asking her. Is there anything else I can try.. I asked about the charities/grants which help out but you have to be on Income Support and be a single parent to be eligible for them!!!0
