Help re home insurance with previous flood issues

Hi All

I'm trying to get my Gran home insurance. The problem is that she has been flooded in the past and declares this on quotes but now has flood defences around her house (the whole are was done by the local council) so flooding will no longer be an issue. All quotes are £600+, can anyone advise me how to get a better deal.

You could try the Halifax. For another poster they provided cover in a flood area, but I am not sure whether they would if the house has actually been flooded. So she could be stuck.

Presume she has tried a local broker.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Some underwriters will consider if the area has been flood-free for a certain no of years depending on what caused the flooding eg drainage problems or from a body of water.

If the area is coming up a a higher flood risk generally, that's probably why the premium seems high and any previous flood claims with a body of water close by are usually regarded as a high risk.

As advised above, you should try a local broker who will be familiar with any flood issues in the area.
