HELP! Car Insurance cancellation

Hi,
My friend has moved into a new flat which is located in the grounds of a Holiday park. She rang her car insurance company (Hastings Direct) to change her address with them but they informed her that they would not insure her car while she was living there. They told her that she would need to cancel her policy and take out a new one with another company. However they are also saying that she will need to pay a £50 fee in order to cancel the policy.

Is this right? I can understand paying a fee if its her choice to cancel but it seems harsh considering they were the ones to tell her to cancel.

Any comments or clarifications are welcome!

Dave

I would try insurance forum on here as well.
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
    Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.

  • Seems strange but common sense sometimes goes out of the window.

If they dont cover your new address then not much else that can do, Get a new policy.

I would be contacting them to see why they wont cover it and wear them down on the cancellation fee.
Is the policy paid on a monthly basis?

Point out to them you are not cancelling, you are trying to change the address and they are stopping cover.

  • When I was searching for renewals this year a very large insurance company refused to quote me when I put my postcode in:eek:

    I was mortified!

I have lived there 5 years, its a decent neighbourhood and never have any problems getting insurance.

Luckily my renewal was the cheapest and I have stuck with them. I could understand getting refused if I had multiple claims etc but this was prior to putting any info in :)

    Strange beasts these Insurance Companies.
