Royal Mail Recorded package not signed for.

Just received a package, which was sent recorded post and was supposed to have been signed for. However it was just shoved through my letter box and no signature requested. If I now put the tracking number into their system, it claims they have the letter in their system. Its not the first time they've done this.

What can I do in this situation? OK I'm glad I've got the letter, but am annoyed at slack service and wouldn't want it to happen again. How best to complain/moan? The FAQ on their website, reckons a refund can be given in this situation, how do I go about claiming that (well the the poster anyway)?

You could complain but at the end of the day it is the sender that has the contract with RM, so in reality it's not really your concern, particularly as you've received the item. Contact the seller and tell them.

The poster needs to download a claim form and they will get refunded the 75p for the recorded proportion of the price.

Probably about 60 to 70 percent of recorded items are not signed for or updated on the website. Recorded is really normal mail with the possibility of a signature at the end. If you want proper tracking you need to send special delivery.
  • very slack / naughty though, of RM.

I wonder how many other packages are treated like this, around the UK?

Exactly. Plus having to get up ridiculously early to get there as they close at midday etc.
