Next March I'm going on a skiing holiday with a few friends to Bansko, Bulgaria. On the way back home we're thinking of heading into Macedonia maybe to Skopje just because it's there man!

Has anyone been to Macedonia before? Is it easy to get into the country? Any problems we might face at borders etc and what is the place like if you have managed to get in?

Should be cheap: they advertise on international TV for businesses to invest there, and quote very low wage rates while highlighting that they are within the EU. EU membership means that there will be no problems getting in for a visit.

Macedonia wants to be a member of the EU, but isn't yet. Slovenia is the only part of former Yugoslavia that is currently in the EU. However, you do not need a visa to visit.

I've been to Skopje, briefly, as part of an Interrail trip. No border problems, no visa. Did search for booze etc iirc. Really cool laid back vibe, very few western European tourists and cheap! You have to go to Kaj Marsalot, a socialist themed restaurant!

I'll try find that restaurant, sounds interesting! Just don't fancy being stopped for hours at the border for no reason.

Think it's definately an option to go.
