I am thinking of downloading Sky Player software on my laptop, and I was wondering what others are experiences with that product (I am a Sky subscriber); and also about there's something that I do not quite understand, and it says "The Sky Player Software uses secure peer-2-peer technology, which means that your computer will automatically share programmes you've downloaded with other Sky Player users. This is done by software called Kontiki (including KService and KHost) as part of the installation.."
Can anyone explain what it means? Will my laptop be in any danger?

No idea, don't use it, but it works on a similar way to torrents or skype, but with a very very big difference it will continuously upload forever even when you are not using it
I would do some research before you put it on !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. There must be someone that uses Sky Player on this forum.0 -
I used it this morning, thanks for asking:D . As far as I know it does not install anything and does not use kontiki (bbc iplayer used to and I deleted that years ago) As richie says kontiki sets you up as a peer-to-peer host and that could hammer your upload / download even if you aren't using. There must be someone that uses Sky Player on this forum.
Check this out
If you want to use skyplayer software off line then you need to install the player software which does use kontiki , I wouldn't touch that with a bargepole , I don't know if you can uninstall the kontiki stuff and still use the sky software.

hi i use this piece of software, i have had some issues that you can only register 4 devices, which is fine but i registers my computer as a new one every time it is used, sometimes whilst changing channel too, i only use it online and haven't downloaded the program.0

I understand that using it online, you do not need anything other than a signal. But as I will soon start long train commutes, and spend less and less time at home, I was tinkering with the idea of downloading programs and watching them on the train. So the general view is to not install the Sky Player Software because of this kontiki. What exactly does it do to a PC?0

Kontiki is filesharing software.
A simple explanation,
You install Kontiki, then,
You download a TV programme to your PC, and save it, you then act as a server for Sky.
When I download the same TV programme, depending on demand, part will come from SKY and the rest from your PC.
So it will eat into your monthly allowance, if you have one.
Also there were privacy issues, though I think they've been resolved.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

We've had major issues with this! Hubby is the only one who uses Sky Player on his laptop but for some reason everytime he watches something it registers him as a new user so on the 5th time of logging on it tells him the device is not registered and the maximum number of devices have been registered!!
No problem he thinks - I'll just go into my Sky account and deregister the active devices and start again - this works but you can only make changes to your registered devices once a month so it's not long until he gets the device not registered messageso then he has to phone Sky and get the account reset!!xxx Nikki xxx0
