Debit card pre-authorisation – help needed

Hi,
I’m wondering if anyone can offer a bit of advice. I made a payment for a holiday on Saturday of just over £1000, the first transaction failed so she put through another. I tried to get some cash out Monday only to find no available funds.
After some lengthy calls it turns out that one payment of £1076 has been debited from the account and they’ve placed a hold on the other £1076. I’ve checked with Thomsons and they’ve said there is nothing they can do as they’ve not taken the extra payment and I will just need to contact my bank. So I’ve contacted HSBC who have advised there is nothing they can do it’s up to the merchant bank to release the funds.
All the while I’ve got no available funds in my account!
Can someone please provide any advice or advise how long pre-authorisations normally take to drop off?

You laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same

Generally around 3-5 working days.
If you really need access to the money, then you need to contact Thompsons, and ask them to speak to their merchant bank about it.0 -
This happened to me in January this year when i booked some flights. The first payment didn't go through, and my bank confirmed that it hadn't gone through as they called me to ask if i had attempted the transaction. I confirmed I had and they told me it would go through if i tried again, which it did. This was on a Friday and on Monday morning I tried to withdraw some cash and it wouldn't let me. I checked my online banking and the authorised payment had come out but there was a hold on another amount. Got on the phone with the bank, they said it's not them, so phoned Delta and they said they had only received one payment. So I phoned the bank again, this time didn't take no for an answer, and got them to remove the hold, and the money credited back to my account overnight. They also refunded a charge incurred due to a dd bouncing as a result of the erroneous hold. This was a&l before Santander messed them up! So get back onto your bank, they should be able to sort it for youDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0
