Dental treatment abroad

Hi everyone.
I wonder if any of you have experience, either good or bad, of having dental treatment abroad? I am 65 years old, have not been to the dentist for at least 15 years, and now need a great deal of treatment. I have loose teeth, teeth which have broken or fallen out completely, and am probably going to have to spend a fortune for treatment in the UK. I have been looking into the possibility of having treatment abroad, either in the Indian subcontinent or in Eastern Europe, which can be much, much cheaper than in the UK. So if anyone has any ideas it would be really appreciated.
TIA

These should keep you busy for a while! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Thank you... there are some real horror stories about.0

I have had dental treatment in Sharm, Egypt - They are brilliant, and so cheap. would definately recommend going there.0

Whilst I would not cast aspersions as to how well done the work is .... cheap isnt really the best indicator of quality.
Personally I would want work done WELL not cheaply and as such that should be the first thing you look at IMO. By all means look for good value but you are dealing with your body not buying a hose pipe. If the hosepipe is knackered after one use you take it back or buy a new one. If you have "cheap" but poor work done on your mouth at best you are looking to have to have it done AGAIN and in the case of going abroad often paying again ... At worst you have irreversibly damaged your mouth and little can be done for you other than to live with the consequences.0 -
Paul, if you are considering implants/restoration - Ive been looking at the Brighton Implant clinic which seems to be very competent and charges about half the cost of normal implant dentistry.
There is also dentale - which is a sort of dental implant training school for dentists and they charge a lot less but I think you have to be pretty flexible about dates for attendance and so on.0 -
Hi Paul,
I run an accredited British dental clinic abroad that specializes in providing expert implant dentistry abroad at better costs than those in the UK. Plase feel free to have a look through my website at dentalholiday dot co dot uk and contact me directly, I'd be happy to help with any of your questions.0 -
Daniel, its a lovely website but when you factor in the cost/time involved in travelling to and from slovakia ? for at least 3 visits.................0

OP hopefully through reading the previous threads you are aware that what you should not be looking at is a "quick fix".
Anyone even thinking about placing extensive ,complex dental treatment(implants etc) in someone who hasn't attended a dentist for 15 years and has gum disease etc would be negligent in the extreme
.
Wherever you choose to go be aware that unless you opt for all of your teeth extracted and a full set of dentures with another set when the gums have healed, any treatment is likely to need many visits and follow up appointments and maintainance. No dental treatment lasts a lifetime ,it all requires regular maintainance and replacement.
Think about what lifestyle changes you are willing to make in terms of diet, cleaning, ? giving up smoking, regular attendance and hygiene appointments at the dentist. Then book with a dentist you trust and come to a treatment plan that realistically is right for you and your budget and has some chance of lasting many years to come.
If nothing else book in with a dentist near to you for an assesment, you are under no obligation to have the treatment, then you will have a realistic idea of what treatment you need and how many visits it will take to sort out and possible costs. There are very few people with complex dental problems whose treatment can be done in only 2 or 3 visits.0 -

What is an 'Accredited British Dental Clinic'?
Are you registered in the UK - NO
Are you bound by UK regulations - NO
Are you covered BY UK law - NO
You SAY you are members of the British Association of Cosmetic Dentists, but that is just an organisation that only requires you to fill in a form and pay some money - there are no exams, and you need no extra qualfications in order to join. (And I can't confirm that anyone there IS actually a member, as there are no dentist's names on your website other than 'Dr Mark'.)
The 'average' UK prices you quote on your website are more like very top-end city cosmetic practice prices rather than 'average' prices.
In short - that is the sort of misleading website that is typical of the dental holiday industry.
Would you agree that high end cosmetic/implant treatment is a complete waste of time and money if a patient has not been given decent education on why their teeth fell to bits in the first place?
And would you also agree that if high end workis not looked after to a much better extent than natural teeth, it will very soon fail?
In short, would you not agree that flying off somewhere for a 'quick, cheap fix' is never going to work in the medium-long term, and that patients that do are much more likely to really mess their mouths up?How to find a dentist.
