Dental Implants - Abroad

Options
Good morning,

This has probably already been discussed many times, but i'm not very good at going back through old posts so here it goes again.

I returned from my private dentist yesterday and i need 3 tooth implants, one being at the top so this one needs to be done immediately as i hate smiling with a missing tooth, and the other two are lower teeth which have come out because i have inherited rubbish teeth.

My dentist quoted me £2,400 per tooth which includes everything, CT scans, extractions etc. Is this a good quote? I have been looking at maybe going abroad because £2,400 x 3 = £7,200 which is an awful lot of money, especially when i am saving for a mortgages etc. What i want to know is are dental implants abroad worth looking into? I have been looking at several different websites and the costs is half the price, obviously this isn't ideal because it's not local to just put back too if you have problems, but if its going to save me thousands, is it worth doing? I have been looking at Budapest dentists.

I'm only 26 so the teeth will be with me a long time i hope.

Thanks for your time and advice,

im also interested in this as I need 2. I have a crown on one at the mo, but I know a replacement crown cant be fitted. I also have a back tooth that needs to be removed and Id like an implant there as well.

This was the most recent thread about this subject:-

    And it's not too long.

This is the huge thread about it:-

One thing you have to address is that these 'inherited rubbish teeth' will still be breaking and decaying for reasons that you CAN do something about with a bit of thought and diet modification.

It's just as important that you do something about that, or you'll be faced with even more enormous bills.

It's more likely that a dentist based locally to you would be able to help you with this more than one you just see for 2 weeks on a 'holiday'.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • I would start by saying nobody really needs an implant. The vast majority of dental treatment can be succesfully completed without this surgery.

Quotes from overseas may seem cheap at the outset, I would warn you that they will almost certainly not include the cost of you travelling abroad to rectify any problems that may occur.

As a General Dentist, I would be very reluctant to restore any work such as implants or root filled teeth that had been done by someone else, even in the UK (if I wasn't familiar with their work), let alone that from overseas.

I short, I think it's a bad idea and I have seen some very poor dentistry from other countries (South Africa, Nepal and the Czech Republic to name a few), I have of course seen poor work from the UK but the dentists were usually still around to help pick up the pieces (if only financially).

Thats really interesting. How can they do it for £1k though? I need 3 but Ive just left them as gaps because of the cost.

Oh, just found this clinic where you can have them for even less, as long as you dont mind being a patient of a trainee!

thank you for that- one of the clinics is local to me. I am waiting for an appointment from the restorative dentistry people at the local dental hospital but knowing how useless my dentist is, it might be better for me to check the above place out

I need 2 to replace my dentures

    Cheers!

Let us know how it goes wont you. It would be worth a few nights away in either Brighton or Bristol to save nearly half the cost.

I am only an hour or so away from Brighton, and am also very interested in this.

I wouldnt go abroad personally for it but I cant afford 2.5k per tooth here in the UK.

Interesting concept all that. The company charges the dentist AND the patient ;) LOL

I dont know anything about this place, its worth remembering though although the dentists doing the work are called "trainees" ... they are fully qualified dentists just learning new/additional skills.

Apart from some very rare syndromes there is no such thing as inherited " rubbish teeth". What most people inherit is a rubbish diet and cleaning regime.

Implants do not last forever and can just as easily be lost as normal teeth if you do not meticulously look after them. At 26 ,unless you have one of these rare syndromes, to have lost teeth there must be some radical changes you need to make now in your oral care , before considering complex treatment , otherwise you are throwing money down the drain.

Do you smoke? Stop now most implantologists will not do implants on smokers are failure rates are much higher.

Do you floss/ use interdental brushes every day?

Are your teeth subjected to sugar or acid attacks more than three times a day?

Are you on any medications that give you dry mouth or do you have a medical condition eg diabetes that is not well controlled?

First and cheapest priority should be a healthy mouth , then money spent on complex treatment will be a longterm investment.
