Dental Implants - Abroad
Comments
-
I am only an hour or so away from Brighton, and am also very interested in this.
I wouldnt go abroad personally for it but I cant afford 2.5k per tooth here in the UK.
I notice that they dont even charge a consultation fee, which is most unusual. Can dentists use cheap versions of implants or such?0 -
Everything used in this country has to be licensed. There are cheaper and dearer systems, but at the end of the day the dentist has to be responsible for his choice of system, and any consequences. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Interesting concept all that. The company charges the dentist AND the patient
LOL
I dont know anything about this place, its worth remembering though although the dentists doing the work are called "trainees" ... they are fully qualified dentists just learning new/additional skills.[/QUOTE]
My own dentist carried out a " half-price" implant for me at my usual practice as a trainee under the supervision of his mentor. No problems at all and pleased with the result.....consider myself fortunate to have been in the right place at the right time !0 -
Let us know how it goes wont you. It would be worth a few nights away in either Brighton or Bristol to save nearly half the cost.
'A few nights away' is still the wrong way to think about complex dentistry.
It will never be a case of pop off, get it done, then just carry on as before.
Complicated dentistry will need much more checking, to make sure it's all still OK, and a lot more self care than the original teeth probably got.
Having a place doing cheaper implants in the UK is fantastic - there will at least be UK legal protection and regulation. But Implants are not 'fit and forget'. You will need back-up, so find yourself somewhere local that can at least provide that (Not all dental practices will have experience of looking after patients with implants), and send you back to where you got them done should any problems look like they're starting. How to find a dentist.

That was the point toothsmith - "a few nights", as in returning for consultations, treatments, check ups etc. is a lot easier in another part of the UK than travelling abroad. And tbh, an occasional night in Brighton would be a nice break0

i am going to wait for a while before i check that place out as I've finally had a letter through from the dental hospital regarding restoratative (sp) dentistry- I've waited for 6 months for this as my dentist very kindly didnt put enough info in my original referral letter which would have been so easily sorted if they'd bothered to phone me rather than wait for me to phone the dental hospital to chase things up!
I will wait and see what they say there and work out my options from there :-)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. I would hold fire on thinking the referring dentist didnt put enough info in. That is a very common line trotted out by hospitals to justify not seeing you and thus meaning you do not appear on their waiting list targets. The information given can often be regarded as irrelevant as they barely look at it anyway. They take their own history and their own x rays anyway. Re them phoning you ... I do not mean to sound rude here but thats missing the point entirely ... the point is so that they dont HAVE to see you..
I have had a letter sent back to me saying they wont accept a patient for their waiting list because I did not have a phone number for them .... they dont have a phone! I then had to write ANOTHER letter explaining this to them as they wouldnt take my word over the phone. Meaning a delay of some 2 months ... because dont think they got in touch with me immediately! NO chance.
I have had letters rejected because I havent sent in an x ray .... I didnt have one. Part of the reason they were referred was BECAUSE I couldnt get one!! Its all part of the plan to reduce waiting lists by not seeing patients. Sneaky eh??0 -

Heth its only cheaper at dentale because its a training facility and as such your fees are subsidised by the training dentists. If you were to see your own dentist at his practice then I should imagine you would be paying the normal charges. But at least you know what you are getting with regards to the staff!!
He would be your best source of information I should imagine
