in Techie Stuff
sorry to be so thick but if i buy a wireless enabled laptop, what else will i need to buy or do to make it work.i am already on broadband on my desktop pc

You'll need either a cable router or ADSL (phone line) Modem router.
If you get a Netgear one, there's load of support on this forum.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -
The simplest answer would be: remove the ethernet plug from the back of the PC and plug it into the laptop. It's an either/or situation.
If you want a less-frustrating solution, you will need either an ordinary router (if you want to use an ethernet cable to the laptop) or a wireless router (if you don't).
As indicated in previous posts, you must get the correct type of router depending whether you are on ADSL or on cable. See Difference between ADSL Wireless Router and Broadband Wireless Router, about halfway down the page.
