Hi, Just got rid of an unknown WIN/32 TROJAN, which suspended me from using Explorer and the net, dont ask how as i just fiddled, took two days though.
When i was told to scan system, by, i guess a fake microsoft essentials security programe it ran up a list of security downloads to choose and install, i didnt as i think things would have got worse.
What should i do to improve security, i had a Malaware attack a few months ago which locked my whole laptop down, had to get in a pro to resolve that.

avoid anything that offers a "free scan" that pops up on web sites whilst you are surfing
only download software from the real site, if a pop up says you need to install a "codec" or "add-on" then go direct to the source to download
go to www.windowsupdate.com on a regular basis and choose "custom" , look for optional updates that only download when you instigate the downloads as opposed to the standard windows updates
avoid filesharing sites , biggest source of malware infectionsEx forum ambassador

Id arecommend a few scans to see how it is now
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
If anything was found then do the exact same but run a FULL scan
reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin):idea:0 -
avoid filesharing sites , biggest source of malware infections
It can be so can social networking sites these days.
If you do use filesharing sites then be extra cautious & vigilant, good av/malware protection is a must.
Check comments (but don't rely on them!) and always run AV & malware scans on the file, in fact you should always run scans on any files you may download from unknown sites.0 -
