Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) & Part Time Students

Hello,

This is my first post here so firstly hello everyone.

I read somewhere that part time students are eligible to apply for job seekers allowance. Does anyone know if this is true/how many hours of study you need to be doing to qualify?

Thank you very much for any advice.

Chris

  • RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

You also have to be seeking work to apply for JSA

Are you referring to Higher Education students (i.e. university) or Further Education (i.e. A-levels)?

    For HE:
    Part-time students

If you’re studying part time, you may be able to claim Jobseeker's Allowance if you are:
    • out of work or working less than 16 hours a week on average
    • capable of working
    • available for work
    • actively seeking work
    • below retirement age
Normally, you must also be aged 18 or over. You must be willing to go to a job interview, even if you have to take time off from your course. You should also be prepared to rearrange your hours of study to fit around a job.
