Thought I'd try mrbadexamples stew. Starting it now. But dont have ale. Can I use Kingfisher Lager Beer or a bottle of Becks instead?

Thanks,

You can try anything. If it does not work out there is always the bin.

That is my philosophy any way.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I don't use alcohol in cooking, as that would be a waste.

So, you can leave it out completely. I really don't like the sound of either of your options, but then I don't like lager. IIRC, somewhere in the thread scheming_gypsy mentions chucking in half a can of lager....
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
  • Hummm dont want to throw my first ever stew in the bin... I'll do what MBE does and eat it anyhoo. I'm putting a leek in too.

  • Its done. I left out the leek as I thought I'd already gone over the top with the other load of veggies. I made the stock with well over a pint of water which I took from the pan I cooked the veggies in, topped up with water out of the Brita, half a bottle of Becks and 3 Oxo cubes.

Its all cooking away as we speak on LOW. I started it off with a couple of houts on HIGH.

Heres a few piccies I took during preparations:

When do I need to switch it off, or can I just leave it until lunchtime tomorrow?

    Thanks again.

  • What time are you planning to have lunch? If it were me, I'd just leave it on

(I've done this before. One slow cooker is fine with this, the other doesn't take 'low' literally enough and has been known to scorch the bottom slightly. I think it's a faulty SC, though! )

    P.S. It looks great! :D

  • How was it? Did it work with the lager? Oh, just realised, you won't have had it unless you're planning a very early lunch.

    It looks deish!

  • Just lifted the lid and had a little taste. Not bad! I think it needs a bit of salt though, I only added some to the veggies while they were cooking so theres hardly any in it. When I've woken up a bit and go and prinkle a bit in.
