Cut to size blackout blinds

Hi - I'm looking for blackout blinds for my nursery, and am wondering whether when they say "cut to size", does that mean lengthways, widthways or both?
I'm thinking specifically about these ones:

Which say they are "Easily trimmed to size."
Any ideas? Thanks.

it means width ways, but if they are too long for the window the excess just remains rolled up at the top anyway so.... ?0

That's exactly the answer I wanted - thank you
I was worried it was just going to be length ways which I thought was a bit pointless like you say!

Go to ikea.
The roller mechanism on the argos ones are rubbish. We had some & put up with them for 6 months before throwing them away.0 -
We've ordered made to measure ones from web-blinds.com which worked out pretty reasonable although obviously more expensive than cutting down a standard size - might be worth a look.Adventure before Dementia!0

I have the ones from Argos in nearly every room and they have been great. Measure them carefully and put them up properly and you should have no problems!
My friend had the same but cut hers too short - by nearly 2cms - and they fell down. It doesn't sound much, but you need to be accurate.0 -
Thank you all. I will take a look at the ones in Ikea as well, thanks for the tip.
How do you put up the ones from Argos?0 -
I have blackout blinds in my bedroom and fitted them in the recess which was a big mistake. They would have been better fitted out of the window recess as there are chinks of light down each side where the blind has finished but the brackets the roller blind is fastened to are on the wall.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

If you get the Argos ones do NOT push the brackets right up to the top of the reveal if you are fitting then inside the reveal. The brackets provide enough froint-back clearance for the rolled up blind, but the rolled up blind is bigger than the top of the bracket.
If you push the brackets right up to the top of the reveal like what I did then the blind will snag on the top of the reveal when you wind it up.
Cutting the cardboard insert roller is not easy - I used a breadknife to score it all the way round then snapped itA kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
In the Homes & Holiday mag that came with the Sunday Mirror on 25th July for "Hot this Week" is an article about black-out blinds, as quoted below:-
For anyone who needs to sleep during the day, babies, toddlers, shift workers etc - blackout blinds do a fair job but they often "leak" light at the top or sides. But now Magic Blackout Blinds are here and they don't. Although described as a blind they come on an 8 metre roll with perforations at intervals. Cut to fit and they cling to the glass with static. Even blazing midday summer sunlight can't get through. When you're done sleeping just peel off and store for another day. Pros? extremely effective - Cons? Must be reapplied each time. They cost £32.99 at Halfords (www.halfords.com, 0856 057 9000)
Seem a good idea, going to recommend them to my daughter as when the kids sleep here I have a black curtains with blackout linings in my bedroom and they seem to sleep loads better.0 -
Thanks all for the tips! Cherydee - they sound brilliant! I did see some travel ones as well which sounded cool. Wondering if I would need to peel them off for the first few months at least as once they're awake they'll be out of the room, and we'd have lighting in there. Hmm.0
