Shower cabins - good idea or what?

Options
Doing out my bathroom and someone suggested having a shower cabin - seen some from a company called bathtek and some from bath depot both under £600 so have worked out it would cost less than conventional shower enclosure and tiling and shower and surely would be less likely to leak. Does anyone have an opinion and does anyone know anything about these 2 companies ta.

When something more complicated than the conventional costs less then you know there is something wrong.

Great if you like cheap plastic. I think they look like they habour Legionella.

  • Hi haven't spoken to you for ages on here. Yes never thought about that. Hubby likes them but am not so sure. It is only slightly cheaper than convention but I think we were attracted to the lack of a chance of leaking

Sorry to be so harsh about them! :o But I think if something goes wrong with them then you'll end up having to replace the entire unit. Having stood in one at a show, I thought they were very flimsy and there's a real potential issue with how the thing will run with water pressure.

I'd definitely rather be able to replace individual parts than the whole thing - they seem to just be shipped in from China so whether there's a decent warranty?

  • They don't look as bad as I thought they would, I was expecting 1970s "en-suite" B&B but they'e actually more like 1990s mobile home bathrooms.

I don't understand how they can be plumbed in and then pushed into the corner.

Personally I dislike plastic shower trays or baths.

I had one installed in my house in France as I needed something quick and would do the job. It cost approx £300 (in a sale). I was pleased with the quality, not at all flimsey of leaky, but obviously can't comment on the quality in the UK. Mine was one with a large overhead shower head (on setting 1), water through the 'hose' (on setting 2) - handy for cleaning the shower enclosure with, and multiple jets (on setting 3). All work well as the water pressure in France is generally very good.

One word of warning though. If you get one with jets remember to change the setting before the next person uses the shower else they could be er.....surprised!

Just checked - still there for E379 - could be worth a trip across the Channel?
