American version of Windows

Don't know if anyone can help, but my sister has been given a computer with the American version of windows, and she can't log into her mail account as the @ key doesn't work. Does anyone have any idea what she should press instead to get it ?

Go into control panel then regional language options and you can change it there and remove US keyboard, it may require a reboot to take effect

Theres also a tab in the language options marked lanuages. click on details and whicjh keyboard is loaded up, see pic below

Alternatively it would take about a minute to go into Word (say) and press all the keys with special characters on them, to see what they produced!

In the old days it always used to be the the US " key mapped to the noble British @ key...

PS Have you got a UK keyboard or a US one? That is, do you have a £ sign above the 3 (indicating UK)? If so, follow Poppycat's advice.
If it's a US keyboard you will have to choose the US language/keyboard in the same location.
  • Hi Everyone,
