Policy holder/main driver confusion
I've been looking for renewal quotes on the price comparison websites and it's proving a bit of hassle.
I am the policy holder for a Direct Line Fully Comp policy. My husband is the main driver, and I am a named driver. He is the registered owner and keeper of the vehicle. This seems a bit of a muddle and I'm wondering if we are missing out on better quotations.
Also, we had a one-vehicle accident in 2008 which needs mentioning. He was driving but I made the claim as policyholder. So I have listed it under myself so far.... but perhaps I shouldn't.
Any thoughts on how to make this less complicated and what would work out cheapest for us both?

firstly the policy holder also needs to be the registered keeper,i dont see how you can be policy holder and a named driver surely as policy holder you are the main driver in terms of insurance?
as for the claim in needs to be put against the person driving when it happened no matter who is the policy holder.0 -

Not true. Policy holder, registered keeper and main driver can all be different people, but most insurers do at least need keeper and policy holder to be the same.
OP you will make your life a lot easier (and get more and cheaper quotes) if your husband is the policy holder.
Your accident needs to be in the name of whoever had the accident.0 -
Thanks for these thoughts. I will suggest my husband becomes the policyholder and tries going back to Direct Line for a brand new quote (with their 15% offer). I'm all for making life simpler.
Next task, sorting out cover for our 17 y.o. learner driver.....!0
