I am filling in the travel expenses form and not sure what is "Cumulative business mileage tax year do date, including mileage claimed on this form?"

Do you count the journey "home-work-home" as one journey?
or "home - work" - one journey?
"work - home" - another?

Do you usually put your full address or just write "Home, postcode"? I am afraid it's just not enough space there for full adress.
I am a little bit confused.
Any help will be appreciated.

  • As far as I am aware you cannot claim from home to your normal place of work under revenue & customs rules. So business mileage would be if you visit another place of work/office etc. Unless you are based at home. Cumulative mileage means total mileage claimed on previous claims from April (new tax year) so each months total is added on to the last. this is because after 10000 miles the rate goes down. Your workplace should have a procedure on ehat exactly is allowed and the rates etc.

I would class a return as one journey and I am clear about start and end points so usually put in postcodes.
