HSBC Gold Card - Visa

Hi,

I hold a hsbc gold card, and have not been using for a while now as I use other credit cards.

If the HSBC card is inactive for a certain period will I be charged? I am holding on to this card for emergency usage and the fact that I have had this for a very long time.

Cheers

I don't think you'll be charged, but you might not get a new card when it expires.

I didn't use my HSBC Gold Visa card for ages either, and a couple of months before the expiry date I got a letter saying that as I hadn't used it for a long time they weren't going to issue a replacement. I've known other banks do the same thing.

So if you want to keep the card you are best using it occasionally.
  • Just this week I had such a letter on my John Lewis Partnership credit card (issued by HSBC - I think think the process is standard for all their credit cards). They give you 30 days to transact on the card, then a further 30 days before they close the account. I chose to simply make a nominal value purchase - a replacement card is then triggered as normal without me having to phone them (I only keep the card to pick up the free monthly magazine from Waitrose).
