Visiting Rome

Evening everyone,
My husband and I are looking at visiting Rome for a week next April. We've never been to Italy before (or anywhere in Europe really!) so I'm not sure if what I've found is a good deal.
The hotel is in 'the historical centre of Rome'. Is anybody able to tell me whether this is a good location to be? As it's our first time, we'd prefer to be in the centre of everything if possible.
Also, I've found this hotel & flight (flights with BA) for £673.00 for both of us for 7 nights. Is this a reasonable price?
Sorry for the questions
Thanks in advance for all your help.

I've just put some rough dates in April in to Opodo and London - Rome is coming up at £250 - £290 PPN, with BA, so on that score I'd say that you have a reasonable deal.
I've been to Rome once, and would say that it (the historical centre at least) is surprisingly small. I would compare it to walking between, say, Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace; perhaps adding Covent Garden at a stretch. (Hey, you're Yorkie - lets say it doesn't feel any bigger than York
).
Hotels in Rome can be quite hit and miss, so I would strongly recommend checking out reviews of the hotel on Tripadvisor. I stayed one night in a terrible place, and managed to find Cernaia Suites for the following night, which I wouldn't hesitate to go back to. I seem to remember that it cost around 65 Euro per night, bed and breakfast (for the two of us).0 -
hi- great choice!
I went over New Years 2008/2009, and loved every minute....some advice
take a look at easy jet- depends on where you can fly from, but loads cheaper than BA etc to fly ciampino from bristol say? banter on the taxi/take the terrovision bus & you'll save lodas
we stayed at hotel impero via expedia but booking.com etc all deal with them, as well as direct so have a search for the best deal. great loation opposite the opera house and 2 mins walk to bus station etc - we did hop on hop off bus for first day then managed to walk/ bus the rest as so close. good cheaper cafes/restaurants closeby too ..thye all have the !!!!! feel, but cheaper than tourist traps and fab food!
enjoy! xx I did on the cheap with my mum for 4 days and it was brill! xx0 -
Thanks for the advice so far guys, it's brilliant, really helpful

The hotel I found on Expedia is the Romantic Vatican Rome Bed & Breakfast
We've also thought about combining the trip to Rome with somewhere else, maybe somewhere in Italy but maybe Dublin for 3 nights or so. Would you think it would be easy enough to get a round trip plane ticket from London-Rome-Dublin-London? I've had a quick look and can't seem to find anything at the moment. That said I am very much the novice when it comes to booking flights and things
Thanks again for the advice, anything else anyone can offer would be fab
