Gym membership costs.

Hi,
I live in Bristol and after Christmas I am looking to join an Esporta/David Lloyd style health and fitness centre, not just for exercising, but somewhere with swimming and sauna facilities etc.
Typically none of the aforementioned companies list their prices. I expect them to be fairly expensive, but would like to know a typical membership cost per month, also the price for a couples membership would be good as well.
So does anybody have any information, no matter how basic for Esporta/David Lloyd and Nuffield.

It does differ by areas. I think someone from the London area posted not long ago and was quoted £86 a month! I also remember last year it was around £75 a month. These prices do not include any joining fees which would no doubt be added.0 -
Hi, I'm a member of an Esporta club in North London and a membership costs £86.00 a month, but is reduced to £69.00 as i work for the NHS - you get the reduction if you work in any public sector job. Not cheap but the facilities are excellent and all classes are included plus they regularly have members nights which are always good fun.
oops - forgot joining fees etc, you can usually talk them into waiving them so don't be afraid to haggle! I had mine waived and got the first 3 months at half price!0 -
Not esporta, but virgin in london (not city) & we pay £75 per month each.0

I've heard someone in work saying that the Esporta in Gloucester charges around £65/month (reduced to £60 for corporate)0

It all varies from city to city it really does. In April I was looking at many new gyms and this is what I was told.
LA Fitness, £70 a month, could wave joining fee (not sure how much it is normally) if you signed up for 18 months you got the last 6 for free.
Local Council Gym, no joining fee but £40 a month if you live in the local authority. Not sure how much more if you didn't.
Fitness First were saying £35 a month but they had lots of hooks and loop holes to wade through so I didn't look too much into that, think it was only an off peak membership price.
Nuffields quoted me £75 a month and were willing to waver joining fees which I think they said were £50 or £60 but includes a full health MOT.
Virgin Active quoted £70 a month in some clubs and £90 a month in the "Classic Clubs" which are apparently better. They had no joining fee when I asked and at the time offered 3 months free if you signed up for a year. Think the offer has now ended.0 -
School gym by me is £18 but only has cardio at the mo.
Council gym is £25 a month gym/swim/classes that is NHS/Educational workers rate, DL is about £65 peak and Village leeisure is about £42 peak but thats NHS rate again.
Those prices are Mildands not in a main town.
I've just got a weeks free pass for Top Notch to try - worth ringing and asking for these as a good way to see if you like a gym and feel comfy before signing up.
I shall probabally join the school gym - only because its within walking distance of home and I dont drive, otherwise I'd go to the council one.
Have got a friend who lives in Bristol who is a personal trainer and would know some of the Bristol gyms - can email her to ask about Bristol ones if it's of any help? It's good to get as much info in advance before signing up!Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.
