This is the linux i use although i requested a copy and got a test cd and the main one for installing it.

If you want to check out some Live CD Linux distros (no installation required) go here. PCLinuxOS is a good entry level distro.

Puppy also runs off CD too, is very compact (around 70 megs for the complete ISO with just about everything you'd need on it) and quick.

Works well on older machines too.
