  • I think hotmail are offering free word/ppt access through their email servers in the UK. Also you could try the new windows word which is in the beta version...

Answering the original question, when you're in the Works word processor you should save the document as an RTF (Rich Text Format) file. I don't know any word processor which can't read that file type!

Use hotmail or gmail to send the email and download open office for the cv
  • Recruiters and HR departments normally prefer MS Word docs because they then transfer the information into their own standard forms.

As mentioned above, download open office (free) and save it in a word format (DOC)

If you have Works, then get CutePDF and job's a good 'un.
You just print your document, but instead it going to a printer, CutePDF saves it to an Acrobat .PDF file.
I use it all the time.
  • tried open office? freeware (and compatible) versions of words, excel etc..

However, trying to e-mail it, I have outgoing e-mail server wrong, so just need to sort that. I think incoming is POp3? I will e-mail AOL. my ISP to see if they can tell me.I think a link above may. Thanks everyone, much appreciated.

It sounds like you have a complicated email set up. Most people just access email through the web these days. I would STRONGLY suggest using gmail, as that is free and has a very strong spam filter (I might see two spam messages a year if I am very unlucky and I have had one "false positive" in six years). Try visiting www [dot] gmail [dot] com to find out how to get an account.
