Random questions for new mums on here!

Hi all!

Basically, I've a couple of questions to ask - I am thinking of going to my GP about this, but wanted to see if others had similar experiences.

Basically, I gave birth to DD 14 weeks ago - inducement, natural birth but whisked straight to surgery due to a 3rd degree tear. Ouch indeedy!

All has healed nicely, got the all-clear from the surgeon at my 8wk checkup.

When I went with DD for her first round of injections at 8weeks, I got the Depo contraception injection. I had previously been on the pill, but it was a mishap with that, that resulted in DD, so thought it best to try an alternative method! :o

That was 6 weeks ago. Myself and the OH finally resumed s ex late last week. I had been spotting earlier in the week, but ever since that night, I have been on/off with a mild-ish period. Not too much per day, but too much for a panty-liner. If that makes sense.

Do you think I should be concerned? I've read in various places that the Depo causes very random bleeds within the first year, and I think it's probably just coincidence that it happened after the s ex since I'd been spotting earlier too.

Anyone had similar? I'm gonna leave it this week, as there's no particular discomfort, just mild annoyance on my part! lmao!

I do apologise if some people find this too much information, but I'm not a member on any mums forums, and think if I joined and just dived in with this, I might get some strange responses!

It's def a good idea to ask is it normal and did anyone else have problems, but I would really suggest you call your Dr or nurse at the surgery to run it by them, too.
  • After my last child - 6 weeks after I had Depo. I had on and off bleeding for the first 3 months. It was annoying to say the least and just as I was about to not bother having the next injection it all just stopped. And then bleeding ceased altogether. I still got occasional spotting but nothing like those first couple of months.

Stick with it. It's worth it for the lack of hassle!

Thanks for that, you've made me feel slightly better! Have made an appointment to see my GP tomorrow to be on the safe side, but glad to know others have been in the same boat!
  • I'll be in that boat again soon enough! Pg with child number 3 now. But hell or high water i'll be back on that depo asap afterwards.

Oh... and don't worry... the depo didn't fail... The child was planned :D

I've never had a baby so can't help with that, but I've been on Depo for years, now I have the implant in my arm, ( I know thats a different department, but thats where it lives apparently) :D - This only has to replaced every three years :T

Anyway, I've forgotten what a period is like, :T
  • Do periods stop with the implant as well then Linda? And did this happen straight away? I was very scared to look into this as I imagined them cutting my arm open!

I had random spotting with Depo, alot at first then it tailed off to just a day or so a month then stopped all together. I thought it was great until I found out the the stopping of spotting actually co-incided with the conception of baby number 3.

Edited to say, - I should have said, "they did stop with me"

I went from Depo to Implant, it must be a good six years (off the top of my head) since I had a period.

Having the implant is a doddle, honestly, you lay down on the bed at the doctors and put your right arm up at the side of your head (if your left handed, left hand if your right handed)

They numb the area, so you really really don't feel a thing, just abit of pushing, I didn't actually look, you understand :o you just turn your head the other way. :D

The implant is as big as a matchstick, and they make a small incision, as big as is needed to push a matchstick in, ie.very small.

Then they get you to feel it, so you know its there, it feels like a matchstick under your skin - thats the worst bit, it just takes abit of getting used to.

Then you have a bandage, like an arm band which you are surposed to wear for 24 hrs to stop brusing. This stay straight for about 5 mins :rotfl: so I bought my own dressing, its not sore or anything you just feel like it need protecting, because its odd to you.

If your doc says go for it, then do so, I'm not brave honest :D if it dosn't suit, they can whip it out again, which they can't with the injection.

A Doctor and a Consultant from the Hospital does it, so your in good hands.

Hope this has helped, and sorry if anyone thinks I've hijacked the thread.
