is the £500 to include a monitor, keyboard house etc?

one of the current better buys is this http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/configurePrd.asp?idproduct=925 you can configure it a bit more to your liking however it is JUST a base unit and you would have to buy keyboard mouse monitor speakers etc UNLESS you are connecting the computer to a TV as the graphics card does allow a HDMI connection to hook it up to a normal TV
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

    You can this from Currys

HP Pavilion Slimline S5508uk-m Desktop PC with Monitor

    AMD Athlon™ II X2 220 (2.8 GHz), Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 3072 MB, Hard drive: 500 GB, DVD-RW, Black case, with 20 Monitor

It's more than enough for the games he will play. it's £529 but with this code "Sales5" you get %5. Pc world also have some voucher codes

John Lewis are doing a basic Compaq (HP) PC at £350 or about £100 more with a monitor. It's a similar deal to models being sold in Tesco etc.

No offence, but I'd rather buy from them than the dreaded Currys/PC World.....in fact I just have. Their customer satisfaction is at the other end of the spectrum, and rightly so. Also offer a 2 year guarantee as standard.

if its just the base unit you need, i reckon you could get a decent unit for maybe £400

Look at the £489/£499 ones. Should be absolutely fine for your needs - if anything, maybe a little overkill.
