  • You can get something like this 42" LG from comet for £449. 37" LG and Samsung ones are both from £429 if you did want to go smaller.

Am I totally committed to claim if I phone them and start the claim process?

No you won't be committed, but some companies will note it down as a claim/loss if you start talking to them (we've had enecdotal reports of that on here) and you can be penalised for that.

Personally I'd want to cost it up.
Do the virtual quotes adding the claim and subtracting NCD to see the difference before mentioning it to them at all.

My gut feeling is that they will reclaim the remaining £320 from you over the next 3 years in increased premiums, but there isn't any short cut to doing the sums.
The quotes should only take about 10 minutes, so I'd recommend doing that first.
  • Hi again, well I'm glad I waited for OH to find the receipt because he had bought a Total Cover warranty with the TV. I don't know how he forgot - it cost £149! On reading the small print it is covered for accidental damage, so fingers crossed we should get a similar TV as a replacement. x
I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:
  • Update

Today Comet delivered a brand new 40" LED TV.

An assessor came and a few days later we had a call from Comet offering us a TV that was a slightly lower spec than ours (I think it was about £450). OH phoned back and told them it was a lower spec and could they offer us anything better. The guy spoke to his manager and said "you can choose any TV up to the value of £699".

I'm pleased OH bought the insurance and it's all worked out well in the end. x

    EXcellent.
Looks like the warranties might be worthwhile if you have toddlers.
