Car has just passed it's MOT but it has an advisory notice which says..

Inner drive shaft leaking slightly.

Could someone help me understand what this is please?

TIA

It means either the CV boot which keeps grease in and dirt out is becoming loose/failing or that the seal on the gearbox where the driveshaft goes in is leaking although that's not an MOT item.

Get it sorted ASAP, the last thing you want is a seized drive shaft. It won't cost much to fix :).

Most likely to be a CV boot, if you leave it the joint will dry out causing you bigger bills.

CV boots are an MOT item :).

The garage put new brake pads and discs on, it's a pity they didn't just fix this at the same time.

    Thanks both of you.

They probably should have asked you.

However, they weren't to know that you would approve of them doing work that wasn't strictly necessary or authorised. Many people would be straight on here moaning about garages doing extra work without asking.:(

Point taken. The car has been at this particular garage loads of times before though, it's where I always go, I just kinda thought they might have phoned to ask if I wanted it done.

No harm done though and no big deal, will just get it looked at again. :)

  • MOT before the last one, I had an advisory that one of my indicators was outside of the allowed colour range.

But the last MOT it had the lamp had miraculously changed back and the colour and was OK

Do you mean it just passed without any advisory the next time? So you still have a bleached indicator? All you need to do is change the bulb.
