Has the price of car insurance gone up?

I'm trying to get 3rd party f&t for my little hatchback - cost me £180 last year.

Best i can get on Confused.com is £330 and best on Gocompare is £230!!!

    Yes it's gone up.
    Try full comp.
    If it's an old banger and you don't want to claim, then try fully comp with a large excess (which won't matter as you won't claim).

    Sounds crazy that more cover could cheaper, but you are restricting our choice of companies significantly with TPF&T.

    Another tip is to add on a more mature driver. Ideally female with no claims or convictions (your mum?). If she never drives the car it doesn't matter.

    Loads of reasons why insurance has gone up, discussed many many times in recent threads but largely because:-

    Cost of third party claims has increased (recent award £14m)!
    Investment income is down;
    Operating costs are up;
    Regulation costs have increased.

    Insurance companies are ultimately working to provide a return for their shareholders and need to underwrite their risks so that they show a profit. If they have had a bad year with claims and costs exceeding income they have made a loss. The following year they therefore will increase rates.

    Don't rely on comparison sites - far better to go and see your local broker who knows his market and will have access to insurers who don't use the comparison sites.
  • Try Churchill

    Premium went up 50% from existing insurer so looked elsewhere

    Churchill came in at about the same as last year;)

    At 60 you possibly aren't in their target market anymore.

  • My insurance last year was 105 a month. Got my first year NCD this year and the cheapest quote I can get is 50 a month more than last year:mad::mad::mad:
