Chimney stack unsupported in loft - cost to put in steel £3k?

Hi all,
House i'm buying has had chimney breasts removed up to loft but have not botched the support of it.
Needs a structural steel putting in /RSJ - to bridge two chimney stacks in 30's semi.
This is against the party wall of the neighbour so not sure if that complicates things.
Local builder has offered to do it for £3k - including sorting building regs forms/fees and structural calculations.
Is this reasonable?
Any advice gratefully received!

i am far from an expert on this but i know someone who had similar and they had three pieces of short steel welded together to make a sort of U shape that braced the stack in to the wall it was about £500, might be completely different not sure i would get three quotes for this0

Thanks Shane42 - haven't heard of that before but I'll run it by a builder when the time comes!0

I do no know whether this will help. I had one chimney breast completely removed as it was not supported and we thought it better to remove it. Another one was supported and I paid nearly 5k last year. He did all the paper work for me & got building control officer to visit the property for advice what the best way to support the chimney breasts. Better get a few quotes from reputable builder0
