Have just discovered that my daughter is using LimeWire, which is a file sharing service. I thought these were all illegal now. Can anyone advise me please?

The service it self isn't illegal, it is what people using them for that is.
The RIAA in America is trying to get them all shut down.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
They as programs aren't illegal, however, sharing content which is copyrighted IS illegal, and you could have police crashing through your door at 5am tomorrow morning
I'm joking of course (about the police raid) - it isn't a crime to have limewire as far as I know, just using it to get files for free.
Someone else will probably advise you better in more detail :rotfl:

EDIT: took me so long to actually reply someone else replied above

What you have to check for is what your daughter is using it for,
I find it full of copied films, music and !!!!!!.
She might be able to be using it perfectly legally and looking at pictures of ponies, but I doubt it.
But as previously said, it is legal.
p.s. I am not accusing you daughter of looking at !!!!!!, I started to have bad visions of someone reading my post and become inflamed.0 -
Apart from the legality issues, the Limewire network is probably the most dangerous with regards to downloading infected files which "appear" to be legitimate until you attempt to run them. The Alcan worm which has been one of the most prevalent infections in the last year is all over the Limewire network. I would uninstall the program immediately if I were you. If you use this computer for personal banking, eBay or PayPal transactions etc, I would ban her from using file sharing programs altogether.0
